This Easter-themed bento box for kids is full of bright colours, balanced nutrition, and a lot of fun. From a bunny-shaped sandwich to a little chick egg, every bite is designed with your little ones in mind—and created for busy parents who need a quick, stress-free lunch solution.

Toddler Tip
You might be wondering—do I really need to turn my toddler’s lunch into bunnies and chicks for them to eat it? While it’s totally okay if that’s not your thing, adding a little fun or playfulness to food can actually go a long way. Research shows that young children are more likely to try and enjoy foods when they’re presented in an engaging or visually appealing way. Think of it as a playful invitation—not pressure—to explore what’s in their lunch box!

Instructions for Making an Easter Bento Box for Kids

Toast the slices of bread (if you wish). Add in the sandwich filling. Put the pieces of bread together, then cut the sandwich into a circle.

Next, cut the ears from the remaining crust of the sandwich.

Decorate the sandwich with two blueberries for the eyes, a strawberry nose, red pepper mouth and carrot whiskers.

Prepare the remaining bento box items. Make the chick egg. Using a peeled, hardboiled egg, cut halfway to remove the top half of the egg white. Add two chocolate chips for eyes on the yolk, and a piece of carrot for the nose. Add the remaining egg white back onto the egg, above the face.
Feel free to add in other items to the bento box! Cinnamon apples are one of our favourite lunch items to include.
Substitutions
- Bread – we love whole grain bread here but feel free to swap for any bread you like. Try and get one with 4g of fibre or more per serving!
- Sandwich filling – you could do a cheese sandwich, some hummus, avocado and veggies – whatever your little one likes!
Equipment
- If you have a rabbit cookie or sandwich cutter – perfect!
- Or you can use a circle cutter like I used
Storage
- Best eaten day of!
Top Tip:
- I recommend using fresh blueberries! I tried frozen and they made the bread soggy.
Nutrition Notes 🥕
- Greek yogurt provides protein and probiotics for gut health.
- Carrots and red peppers are loaded with vitamin A and C to support immunity.
- Hemp hearts offer plant-based protein and healthy fats to fuel busy toddler days.
- Eggs are a powerhouse of nutrients like choline, which supports brain development.
This bento box offers a balance of fibre-rich carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, and fibre—exactly what growing toddlers need to stay energized.
FAQ
You can partially prep it ahead, but I wouldn’t recommend assembling the whole bento the night before—the sandwich can get soggy. Instead, slice the carrots, cut the red pepper, and chop the strawberries in advance. You can also hard-boil the egg and store it peeled in the fridge. Then in the morning, just put everything together fresh—it only takes a few minutes!
While it’s important to offer our kids a variety of foods, school lunches are not always the best time to introduce something brand new. It’s often best to stick with familiar favourites that they feel confident eating. A classic peanut butter (or seed butter) and banana sandwich or a simple cheese sandwich are great, reliable options.
Totally! Use a plant-based yogurt (like almond or oat) and pick a dairy-free sandwich filling. There are lots of great sandwich fillings that are dairy-free such as a nut or seed butter and banana, hummus, chickpea mash, just to name a few!
