Toddler Tip
These pita pizzas are the perfect recipe to involve your child and give them the opportunity to choose their own toppings. Try placing a few options in small bowls and let your child “decorate” their own pizza. Not only will they love being part of the process, but getting them involved supports their curiosity and increases exposure to different foods, all in a fun, low-pressure way.

How To Make Easy Pita Pizzas For Kids

Place the whole wheat pitas on a lined baking sheet or on the counter for decorating.

Set up the pizza-making station with the sauce and toppings in small bowls. Spread the sauce on and decorate the pita pizzas.

Sprinkle cheese on top.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the pitas have crisped up.
Hint: Depending on your child’s eating abilities, you may want to slice the pita into strips, small triangles, or bite-sized pieces to make it easier to manage.
Substitutions
- Gluten-free: Use GF pita.
- Dairy-free: Use vegan cheese or skip it altogether.
- Sauce: Pesto or marinara sauce are both great options in addition to regular pizza sauce or barbecue sauce.
- No oven? Serve cold “flatbread” style or use an air fryer!
- Veggies: Use whatever toppings you like! Swap in other veggies like different colour bell peppers, tomatoes, fresh spinach, whatever you like!
Best Tips for Success
- Slice toppings into small, appropriate size pieces for your child
- Kitchen scissors can be helpful for cutting the pizza into bite-sized strips or wedges
- Some people say you need to bake pitas pizzas directly on the oven racks to prevent the pitas from getting soggy. I have not found this to be the case. We baked ours on parchment paper on a baking sheet, and they turned out an excellent crisp texture. This also made decorating and clean- up a lot easier!

Storage Tips For Pita Pizzas
Pita pizzas are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge and packed for lunch the next day. To reheat, simply pop them in a toaster oven or regular oven until warmed through.
You can also freeze unbaked pita pizzas for 1–2 months, a brilliant way to have an easy, no-prep dinner ready to go. Just keep in mind: if your toddler picked their toppings a month ago, they might not be into those same choices anymore 😅!

FAQ
Yes! Naan bread and small tortillas both work well. Just adjust the cooking time slightly, as thinner bases may crisp up faster.
You can prep the toppings and even assemble the pizzas earlier in the day and then just pop them in the fridge until you are ready to cook. For longer storage, freeze them unbaked and cook from frozen when you’re ready!
Don’t worry about it! Let them start there, you can still offer the other toppings without any pressure. This is actually a great meal for cautious eaters because it provides opportunities for exposure to a variety of foods in a low-stress, fun way.

- Toddler Helpers: Even young toddlers can help spoon sauce or sprinkle cheese! Just pre-chop any toppings for easier grabbing.
- Dips Make It Fun: Serve with a little side of ranch, yogurt dip, or even extra pizza sauce for dunking.
- Allergy Adaptations: Use dairy-free cheese or gluten-free pita if needed, both versions still work great!
