Fruit Candy Canes (Holiday Toddler Snack!)

Jump to Recipe Jump to Video Print Recipe

Healthy Fruit Candy Canes are a super easy and fun holiday snack for toddlers. You only need two ingredients for these fruit candy canes: strawberries and bananas. This is also a great snack that your child can help you prepare. Just grab some child-safe kitchen tools and your child can help slice the bananas and strawberries (with supervision), or if they aren't ready for slicing fruit, they can help place the banana and strawberry pieces on a plate in a candy cane shape.

    Toddler Tip:

You could turn these fruit candy canes into a balanced snack by adding a dip like a peanut butter & chocolate chickpea dip or some plain yogurt.

    • banana
    • strawberries (or raspberries also work!)

    See recipe card for quantities.

How to Make Fruit Candy Canes

Step 1. Thinly slice along the edge of the banana. This helps the banana pieces sit upright. Then slice the banana into about ½ inch thickness

Step 2 for fruit candy canes. Sliced strawberries

    Step 2. Slice the strawberries.

Step 3. Arrange on a plate into a candy cane shape!

    Substitutions

    • Fruit - Honestly, this one just works best with banana and strawberries. I tried swapping in raspberries but because of the size difference, it didn't look as nice!

    Modifications

    • All children have different eating abilities. Please modify the shape of the fruit accordingly for your child. You may need to cut the fruit into smaller, thinner pieces if your little one isn't ready to take bites off of the bigger pieces. Here is a helpful guide on modifying strawberries for your little ones.

    Storage

I suggest eating these right away. Otherwise the banana will begin to turn brown and get a bit mushy.

    Nutrition tip

In addition to pairing this with a dip such as peanut butter & chocolate chickpea dip or yogurt, you could also sprinkle hemp hearts on top!
