    Ingredients

    • frozen strawberries
    • chia seeds
    • lemon
    • vanilla extract

    Instructions

    Step 1 of strawberry chia jam, add frozen strawberries to medium sauce pan and heat up until strawberries breakdown.

    Heat strawberries in a saucepan on medium heat, stirring frequently until the fruit begins to break down and bubble.

    Step 2 of strawberry chia jam, add chia seeds, lemon and vanilla to strawberries in saucepan.

    Turn the heat to low and add the chia seeds, lemon and vanilla. Stir together and cook for another 5 minutes.

    Remove from heat and let cool for 5-10 minutes to thicken up.

    Hint: It is important to give the chia jam some time to sit and thicken up. Those little chia seeds love to soak up the liquid!

    Substitutions

    • Frozen strawberries - you can swap in other frozen fruit like raspberries or blueberries.

    Variations

    • Sweeter - test the jam and if you like it a little sweeter, you could add 1 teaspoon of maple syrup
    • Other fruit - feel free to get creative with using other fruit!

    Storage

    You can store the jam in an airtight container or mason jar for a week or in the freezer for up to 3-4 months.

    Top tip

    The nice thing about this recipe is you can make as much or as little as you want! Feel free to double or triple the recipe if you would like to have a lot on hand and store it in the freezer.

    Are there benefits to chia seed jam?

    Chia seed jam is a great option for babies and toddlers because the chia seeds do the thickening, rather than a lot of added sugar. The chia seeds provide a great boost of fibre and omega-3 fats, two nutrients that are supportive for your little one! The fibre from the chia seeds can be helpful for supporting with constipation, and the omega 3 fats are important for brain development in little ones!

    How long does strawberry chia jam last in the fridge?

    I'd recommend keeping strawberry chia jam in the fridge for up to a week in a sealed container.

    What can my baby or toddler have chia seed jam with?

    Strawberry chia jam is very versatile! Spread the jam on a peanut butter sandwich or a piece of toast, mix into some oatmeal or cereal, add into some yogurt, or spread on some crackers for a snack. If you are just starting to introduce chia seeds to your little one, start off with a small amount!

    This is a super quick and easy delicious strawberry chia jam with no added sugar. It goes great added on top of toast or a peanut butter sandwich, mixed into oatmeal or cereal and yogurt!

    Ingredients

    • 1 ½ cups frozen strawberries
    • 1 ½ tablespoon chia seeds
    • 2 teaspoon lemon juice (fresh squeezed)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    Instructions

    • Heat strawberries in a small-medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir consistently for 8-10 minutes, or until strawberries start to breakdown and bubble.
    • Reduce heat to low. Add the chia seeds, lemon and vanilla. Stir for another 5 minutes.
    • Remove from heat and let sit for 5-10 minutes so that the jam can thicken up.
