Add some sprinkles on top and serve!

Hint: For overnight oats, whole old fashioned rolled oats work best so that the consistency of the oats don't get too soggy. Steel cut oats are too firm, and are best saved for cooking with heat for a long duration.

    Substitutions

    • Gluten-free - Oats are naturally gluten-free but there is risk of contamination with other foods that contain gluten. If you want these to be 100% gluten-free, look for "Certified Gluten-free" oats.
    • Dairy-free - Swap the Greek yogurt for a plant-based yogurt.

    Equipment

I love using mason jars for overnight oats but any sealable container will work. We are also loving these colourful fun mason jars from Elk and Friends! (affiliate link)

    Storage

Overnight oats can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days.

    Top tip

Use a full-fat coconut milk rather than a coconut milk plant-based beverage. There is a big difference! The canned coconut milk creates a much creamier consistency and richer taste for this recipe.

    FAQ

What else can I use instead of coconut milk?

Honestly, for this recipe I recommend using the coconut milk. Other beverages will have a runnier consistency and will impact the taste.

Are overnight oats a healthy option for toddlers?

Yes! They are a great option for a nutritious breakfast. Whole oats and chia seeds are excellent sources of fibre. Additionally, chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fats, which are supportive fats, especially for brain development. Overnight oats are a versatile breakfast and you can get creative by adding in different mix-ins and toppings.
