Our daycare kindly asked if we could avoid packing yogurt in an open container for my daughter. While I was sightly annoyed at first, I get it, yogurt in open containers at daycare or school can be a tad messy. But yogurt is such an easy, filling snack for kids! So we’ve started making our own DIY yogurt pouches and it has been a total game-changer. Plus, now we can choose the flavours and my daughter has been absolutely loving them.

Ingredients
Here is the base recipe and I’ve provided flavour variations below.

- Plain, full-fat Greek yogurt – Greek yogurt provides a thick, creamy texture similar to store-bought yogurt pouches or tubes and is also a great source of calcium
- Strawberries – I used frozen here and thawed them in the microwave before blending. Fresh also works.
- Banana – Adds a nice flavour combo with the strawberries and helps create a smooth texture.
- Hemp hearts Adds some healthy fats and a little fiber.

Instructions for How To Make Homemade Yogurt Pouches or Tubes

If using frozen fruit, thaw first. Then add the fruit to a blender.

Blend on high speed for 20-30 seconds until the fruit is pureed and smooth.

Add the yogurt and hemp hearts, then stir to combine until smooth and fully incorporated.

Pour or spoon the mixture into reusable pouches or tubes, then seal and enjoy!
Hint: If you are using tubes, a small funnel can be helpful for pouring the yogurt in.
Substitutions
- Dairy-free – Swap the Greek yogurt for a dairy-free option like Siggi’s coconut based yogurt or a soy based yogurt.
- Greek yogurt – If you don’t have Greek yogurt, you can use a regular yogurt but just know it may be a bit runnier.
- Berries – I used a strawberry-banana combo but blueberries or raspberries also work well.
- Seeds – Chia seeds can be swapped in for hemp hearts.
Variations
- Orange-Banana
- Mango- Banana
You can also make smoothies and pour those into pouches such as my Strawberry Calcium Smoothie for Toddlers or this Blueberry Prune Constipation Smoothie!
Equipment
- Blender
- Funnel (optional, helpful if pouring into tubes)
- Pouches or tubes. We like using reusable ones such as these ones here.

Storage
Store yogurt pouches in the fridge for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for 2-3 months. Be sure to allow a little room in the pouches before freezing in case they expand.
Toddler tip
For toddlers who are still learning to drink from pouches, model gently squeezing the pouch to help the smoothie come up. I like to mix up how I serve foods such as yogurt so my kids still get practice using bowls and utensils, but having homemade pouches as an option can be helpful for school, daycare, or snacks on the go.
You can also freeze these pouches and use them as ice packs, they’ll thaw in time to enjoy! This is a great tip for summer outings!

FAQ
Yes! I love prepping a few pouches on a Sunday to have for school lunches for the week. You can keep them in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freezer for 2-3 months.
Rinse them right after use, then wash with warm soapy water using a bottle brush to reach the corners. Some reusable pouches are also top-rack dishwasher safe but check your brand instructions.
