I’m always looking for easy snack ideas that don’t take much time to prep, but still offer a good balance of nutrition. For snacks, I like to aim for a source of fat or protein, some fibre, and a pop of colour! This dip pairs perfectly with fruits like banana or berries, or something fibre-rich like whole grain crackers or toast strips. Simple, satisfying, and toddler-ready in minutes.

Toddler Tip
Iron is a key nutrient for growing toddlers, it’s essential for brain development, energy, and keeping their little bodies strong and healthy. And here’s the good news: chickpeas are a great plant-based source! Just ½ cup of cooked chickpeas contains about 2 mg of iron, which helps support your child’s daily needs (especially important during the toddler years, when iron requirements are higher). Pairing iron-rich foods like chickpeas with a source of vitamin C, like strawberries or orange slices on the side, can help boost absorption, too!

FAQ
Yes! Although, the best part of this dip is that it can be made in under 5 minutes. But if you want to prep ahead of time, this dip keeps well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Give it a little stir before serving, and you’re good to go, perfect for prepping during nap time or after bedtime!
Yes, this dip has a soft, smooth consistency and no added sugar, just a naturally sweet date blended in. There’s a small amount of cocoa powder, which you can skip if you prefer, but really it is only one teaspoon for the whole recipe, so that is a very tiny amount of caffeine. You can also thin it out with a little extra milk to make it easier for younger eaters to scoop or spoon-feed.
So many options! Try it with banana slices, strawberries, apple slices (steamed if needed), whole grain crackers, toast strips, or even a spoon for self-feeding. It also works great as a spread on a sandwich!
