    Nutrition Tip About Watermelons

Watermelon is extremely hydrating (hence the name), containing over 90% water! This makes it a great snack for kids in the summer to help with hydration. Watermelon also contains a cool nutrient called lycopene, which gives watermelon that bright pinky-red colour! Lycopene is an antioxidant that has many health benefits.

    Substitutions

    • Dairy-free - If you'd like to make this dairy-free, use a plant-based yogurt or a thin layer of peanut butter instead of regular yogurt as the sauce.
    • Watermelon - You could potentially swap the watermelon for honeydew or cantaloupe, although it won't be watermelon pizza anymore!

    Storage

This is one snack that is best enjoyed immediately. But if you are looking to save time, you can cut up the watermelon ahead of time and store it in the fridge. Then when ready to make the watermelon pizza, just pull it out and add the toppings.

    Top tip

You can either start with a whole watermelon, and slice it up, or to save even more time, you can buy pre-cut watermelon slices.

    FAQ

How do I cut the watermelon into pizza slices?

Start by cutting a round slice from the centre of the watermelon, about 1 inch thick is perfect. Lay it flat like a big pink disc, then cut it into wedges just like a pizza. I usually go with 6–8 slices.

What toppings work best for kids?

Anything soft and colourful! Think blueberries, kiwi, bananas, strawberries, shredded coconut, mint, and hemp hearts.
